The Auction Business

PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE:
The art of selling at Public Auction has been around longer than this
1929 Ford Truck. Auctions date back to the Civil War Days. Those who
decided to quit farming would contact an Army Officer to sell whatever
they had. These Officers were generally well educated, respected and
highly trusted. This
idea became so widely used that for many years after that era, auctioneers
were referred to as "Colonel".
In later years this business has evolved to a point that Communities
would have one or two individuals who would take it upon themselves
to act as an Auctioneer and sell the goods of others. Many of these
early day salesmen started out by doing pie suppers and other fund
raisers. For some it grew into a lifetime business. To use a common
phrase "We've come a long way, Baby!"
The Auction business is no longer a side-line operation or something
that can be run from the kitchen table. As a matter of fact, in recent
years it has become the MODERN WAY TO SELL! A well run Auction will
out-perform any other marketing method available today.
Auctions no longer carry the stigma of hard times, bankruptcy and
distress. They are a quick and efficient way to buy or sell anything
at a fair market price.
The Auction business has grown and will continue to grow in the future.
The State of Oklahoma does not require a State License for Auctions,
as do the States that surround us. This is the reason it is easy to
get into the Auction business, and many have. However, there is much
more to having an Auction than just being able to do the selling.
To those of you who are considering having an Auction we would like
to offer this bit of advice, "Hire a company with a proven track record.
Someone who has been there, done it and can prove it."
WHY
HAVE AN AUCTION?
An Auction is a very useful
tool in the settling of an Estate, dissolving partnerships, selling
excess equipment, improving cash flow, business liquidation, changing
from one operation to another, retirementor for the purpose of settling
other types of conflicts that arise during the course of life. Auctions
have been a useful tool to many, and Auctions can be useful in your
situation as well.
